Mordhau Historical Combat is pleased to offer monthly workshops and classes aimed at building the sword community and supporting the women who wield. Our goal is to encourage more women to grab swords (or polearms, or daggers, or axes) and to dissolve the stereotypes that suggest sword fighting excludes women, both historically and currently. Arizona is home to a fierce community of swordswomen, and we intend to nurture that community.
Our women's workshops and classes will feature a new topic each month.
Classes are open to all women age 15 and above. Minors under 18 will need a legal guardian to sign a liability waiver on their behalf. Please read our Code of Conduct prior to registering for classes.
Please reach us at mordhauhema@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
The cost is usually between $20.00 and $50.00 depending on the class topic (sometimes we have guest instructors join us from out of town). The cost will be disclosed each month on the registration form.
Absolutely! We have examples seen in historical manuscripts of women giving instruction (see the MS I.33 at the Royal Armouries) and participating in duels.
We don't need it, but sometimes it can be helpful to learn from and train with other people who understand you. It's like having a 'girls night out' but with medieval weapons. We want to create a space where women can feel safe and relaxed so they can comfortably try a new hobby.
Yes! We guarantee that the women's classes are taught by highly experienced instructors who also happen to be women.
Yes, we require a liability waiver to be signed before participation.
Beginners are encouraged! We welcome all skill levels, all body types, all fitness levels, and all women.
Yes! Please do! Just make sure that all attendees fill out the registration form so we can get an accurate headcount in advance.
