Mordhau Historical Combat is pleased to offer monthly workshops and classes aimed at building the sword community and supporting the women who wield. Our goal is to encourage more women to grab swords (or polearms, or daggers, or axes) and to dissolve the stereotypes that suggest sword fighting excludes women, both historically and currently. Arizona is home to a fierce community of swordswomen, and we intend to nurture that community.
Our women's workshops and classes will feature a new topic each month. Current Mordhau members are welcome free of charge, non-members will need to pay the drop-in rate per class of $20.00/person.
Classes are open to all women age 16 and above. Minors under 18 will need a legal guardian to sign a liability waiver on their behalf. Please read our Code of Conduct prior to registering for classes.
FAQ
Did women participate in sword fighting historically?
Absolutely! We have examples seen in historical manuscripts of women giving instruction (see the MS I.33 at the Royal Armouries) and participating in duels.
Why do you need a women's class?
We don't need it, but sometimes it can be helpful to learn from and train with other people who understand you. It's like having a 'girls night out' but with medieval weapons.
Are the instructors also women?
Yes! Every monthly class will be taught by women.
Do I need to sign a waiver?
Yes, we require a liability waiver to be signed before participation.
I'm a total beginner, I have lots of questions.
Beginners are very welcome. If you have questions or concerns please email mordhauhema@gmail.com. We're very responsive and are happy to answer any questions you have. You can also review our beginner's FAQ page here.
Women's classes are temporarily suspended for instructor's maternity leave. Regular classes will continue as normal.
